PBS Wisconsin and ICT partnership amplifies Indigenous voices across Wisconsin

Collaboration brings dedicated reporting on Indigenous issues to audiences statewide

PBS Wisconsin has partnered with ICT (formerly Indian Country Today) to deepen coverage of Indigenous communities in Wisconsin. Together with ICT’s parent company, IndiJ Public Media, the collaboration is expanding access to Indigenous-centered stories across both digital and broadcast platforms.

Introducing a new reporting role

At the heart of this partnership is a commitment to trusted journalism and community-focused storytelling. Journalist and media educator Erica Ayisi has joined as the Indigenous Affairs multimedia reporter. Her reporting is already generating new opportunities to telegraph Indigenous voices.

Stories grounded in community

Recent features from this partnership reflect the resilience and realities of Native communities in Wisconsin. One story from June 2025 reports on a movement to revitalize Indigenous languages taking root across Wisconsin. Another provides a First Nations perspective on how federal cuts to Medicaid and the Indian Health Service threaten tribal health care. A feature from March 2025 highlights the Tribal Education Promise at UW-Madison, which provides financial aid to Indigenous students from Wisconsin’s Native nations, and is intended to help address a history of coercion through treaties. Each report contributes to a fuller picture of life in Wisconsin, while also challenging longstanding gaps in representation.

Centering voices, building trust

Through collaboration, PBS Wisconsin and ICT are not only producing vital local journalism — they are fostering connection and advancing the breadth and depth of understanding of Wisconsin’s Indigenous communities.
