Innocent Until Proven Guilty

Innocent until proven guilty; a good principle to live by, but how often do people really follow through? It seems like in general we may have become too paranoid for the idea to even exist anymore. It’s more like we’ve grown to assume that an accused person is guilty, build the entire case around it and search for evidence that supports the theory.
Now obviously the media portrays things in a way that will sell the most and draw the biggest crowd, but do those messages stay out of the courtroom and away from the jury? Or has the concept managed to completely flip and we’re now looking at a justice system that means you’re guilty until proven innocent? Once you’re accused of something, that’s it – Society views you as guilty whether there’s evidence or not, and the burden falls on you to prove your innocence.
It’s hard to deny that things aren’t the way they used to be, but I have a feeling it’s not something that can really be fixed. Society, rules, laws and we as a people are constantly changing and the ways that we do things have to evolve right along with us. Change is constant, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse, but there’s no going back.
