Your Olympics Alternative

WPT is probably the last place you’d turn to for Olympics coverage. And that’s OK. While most media outlets are focused on broadcasting the games and interviewing the medal winners, WPT’s role is to offer an Olympics alternative. For example, if you don’t want to watch hour after hour of Olympics coverage, well, then you can watch hour after hour of Ken Burns’ The War.

And WPT is happy to provide another alternative – better yet, call it an addition – to the Olympics by highlighting PBS and WGBH’s video profiles of American athletes who will compete in the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Medal Quest: American Athletes and the Paralympic Games is an amazing archive of stories about athletes and the people in their lives who pushed them to compete at the highest level.

Check out all 24 stories and find an athlete to cheer for during the Paralympic Games games Aug. 29 – Sept. 9. The International Paralympic Committee will livestream nearly 600 hours of sports, but despite record-breaking figures for broadcast rights I couldn’t find a U.S. broadcast or cable channel that’s covering the games. If you know of one, please let us know in the comments.
