I was walking through an antique store one time and I saw a rocking chair. A child's folding rocking chair that was dated from the 1880s. And it was covered with dirty, dingy, blue velvet. So I took that piece home. I tore that old blue velvet off of it. We reupholstered it with a beautiful green velvet. And on the back, on that first chapter I beaded the ever-growing tree. The tree of light and life. The tree with the hole in it that Sky Woman fell down through. On the front of that chair, as that chair rocks, you can see the face of Sky Woman as she falls, falls through that hole at the base of that tree. And she falls finally into the seat of that rocking chair where Turtle, Turtle has risen up out of the nothingness. And Turtle finally gave Sky Woman a place to land. Now that story goes on and on. And it's the beginning of the Iroquois creation story, but that is what's written on on that chair for all to see.
