Teen Connection will examine efforts to protect Wisconsin youth from sexual assault and will provide resources for survivors of these acts of violence.
On the live, call-in program, a panel of educators, investigators and counselors will provide a support network for survivors of sexual assault and will educate youth on measures they can take to protect themselves and others from sexual assault crimes. Viewers will get an inside look at counseling and prevention resources available at sexual assault centers throughout Wisconsin.
Teen Connection will also examine state and federal government efforts to protect youth from sexual assault. Last month, President Obama unveiled a public awareness campaign called “It’s on Us” in a push to get college campuses to create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported. In August, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced the statewide Sexual Assault Response Team (AG’s SART) was developing a new process to respond to the needs of sexual assault survivors who may be undecided about whether to participate in the criminal justice system but who choose to undergo a medical forensic exam. The new process allows victims time to work through the trauma of their assault while ensuring the collection of evidence in a timely manner.
Featured guests on the program include: Sexual abuse survivor and Reach Counseling Services board member Amber Johnson; Reach Counseling Services prevention educator Andrew Nett; Ashwaubenon Dept. of Public Safety investigator Diana Lawler; St. Vincent Hospital Sexual Assault Nurse Educator coordinator Dana Stueber; Voices of Men president Shannon Kenevan; St. Norbert College assistant director of counseling and psychological services Tom Doughman; and Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin Sexual Assault Center supervisor Christiana Vanseth.
