[plucking cello strings, tapping on cello instrument] – Monique: The name of the song is “Goodbye.”
– Chauntee: We wrote it, really, at a time where we were saying goodbye to a lot of things and people in our lives.
It was just a transitional time.
– Chauntee: It is, it’s pretty rhythmic, so… [Chauntee sings melody and snaps her fingers] I don’t know.
It reminds me of, just like, gospel music, and just like that repetitiveness of it, which is a huge aspect of gospel music.
Repeat, repeat, repeat, you know?
– Chauntee: There’s not too many lyrics of this song.
“We’re a piece of the puzzle, “They try to put us under “But when that didn’t work You better believe it was the muzzle.”
Like, we– [laughs] I think that was pulling from a time where it was kind of like, um, where we necessarily weren’t being– We felt like we weren’t being seen, really, or heard.
And, and it was just kind of, um, just being women in the music industry sometimes, especially if you aren’t completely confident in where you’re at, you can be really smooshed down.
– Chauntee: There’s this one riff that goes throughout the whole thing, so it repeats itself, as well.
But then there is, um, an improv section.
So, it’s structured improv.
So like here, you can play whatever you want, Chauntee.
[laughs] And, like, have something fun.
And that’s part of what we like to do as SistaStrings.
– Monique: You can take the same piece and play it many times and evoke something differently.
And I think that’s beautiful.
[Monique playing cello] [Monique playing cello and Chauntee playing violin] – Chauntee and Monique: Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye – Monique: We’re a piece of the puzzle They tried put us under – Chauntee and Monique: But when that ain’t work Better believe it was the muzzle – Chauntee: But see, I can’t be solved I’m just tryna evolve – Chauntee and Monique: They ain’t gonna stop my flow Just gonna let em blow Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye [Chauntee playing violin and Monique playing cello] [instrumental improvisation] Goodbye
