[guitar and banjo playing] – Adam: Looking back I can feel the joy Of drawing starships… Adam: The name of the song that we selected is a newer song of ours, called “Outer Space.”
That song is an ode to my third-grade teacher in a lot of ways.
‘Cause she just got kids so jazzed up about space– me, especially.
– Tim: Like, most of our songs are bluegrass instrumentation: guitar-based, banjo, mandolin, harmonica.
– Adam: The arrangement is two verses, then a chorus, and then, another verse, and then, you guys do some cool solo stuff, and I think I sing another verse and chorus, and I do a little harmonica action.
I think the most important thing about it, about that song anyway, is just that feeling of adventure and excitement and a wanting to go somewhere you’ve never been before.
But then also, towards the end of the song, it’s about wanting to come back home after your adventure.
Bluegrass is definitely rooted in community, family, and home.
I mean, I think home embodies all those things.
[performing “Outer Space”] [guitar and banjo music] – Adam: Looking back, I can feel the joy Of drawing starships as a little boy Dreams of rockets in the heavens above I cast my fiery sails for the land of love Looking up at the Milky Way I caught Orion hunting lions on a better day Just drinking water from a spoon of stars And I forgot for a minute About the way things are – Group: I wanna fly to outer space I wanna leave this world For a better place Circle the moon, make my way towards Mars I wanna live my life beyond the stars Whoahhh, oh Whoahhhh, oh, oh, oh – Adam: Countdown’s coming I feel the roar Blast off like an angel to heaven’s door Solar system’s like a new frontier I pack up my star wagon and get out of here – Group: I wanna fly to outer space I wanna leave this world for a better place Circle the moon make my way towards Mars I wanna live my life beyond the stars Whoahhh, oh Whoahhh, oh, oh [mandolin and banjo solos] – Adam: Way up here, I’m all alone I miss the mountains and the waves of my earthly home Drop in the water with a parachute I spend another night dreaming in that old spacesuit – Group: I wanna fly to outer space I wanna leave this world for a better place Circle the moon, make my way towards Mars I wanna live my life beyond the stars Whoahhh, oh Whoahhh, oh, oh [bass and harmonica solos] – Adam: I wanna fly to outer space I wanna leave this world for a better place Circle the moon, make my way towards Mars I wanna live my life beyond the stars Whoahh, oh Whoahhhh, oh, oh, oh Whoah, ooooh, ooh Whoooah oh Whoooah, oh, ohhh Whoooah, oh, ohhh
