[“Man in the Mirror” by Marina City]
Ryan Argast: Off your feet!
[upbeat rock music]
Hands up, hands up!
It was so hard to see
But I guess you’re never happy, what
Lost in your misery in your head
You never told me
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But the words left scars that I hold
Stepped on cracks to break my back
You better jump and touch the clouds!
Y’all ready?!
You said the one that I should fear
Ahh ah ah ah
Was the man in the mirror, what
Man in the mirror
Monsters are for real
Ahh ah ah ah
Was the man in the mirror, what
It was always you
Always you, every time
You said the one that I should fear
Ahh ah ah ah
Was the man in the mirror, hey
Man in the mirror
Asked your friends honestly
But they said you’re always happy
That you were with me
You were with the man of your dreams
I gave you all that I could give
But it’s not enough for you, no, no
Took all that I had
Then you just
Y’all ready?
Get off your feet!
You said the one that I should fear
Ahh ah ah ah
Was the man in the mirror, sing
Man in the mirror
Monsters are for real
Ahh ah ah ah
Was the man in the mirror, what
Man in the mirror
It was always you
Always you, every time
You said the one that I should fear
Ahh ah ah ah
Was the man in the mirror
Turn up on the two.
[electric guitar solo]
Hands up, hands up!
You said the one that I should fear
[guitar slide] You ready?
Was the man in the mirror, what
Man in the mirror
Monsters are for real
There’s a man in the mirror
Man in the mirror
It was always you
Always you, every time
You said the one that I should fear
Ahh ah ah ah
Was the man in the mirror
One more time!
Jump, jump, jump!
[electric guitar solo]
[vocalizing]
Yeah!
Ohh ohh
Man in the mirror!
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: We’ve been a band for a long period of time. For a long, long time. We used to be a band that had six people in the band. Our best friends, they left. We grew up, we became fathers, became house-owners, we became married. And so much life has happened. I literally grew up with these two guys that you see right here.
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: Actually, I don’t know whether– that’s Todor. Eric is back there hiding, he’s scared. No, he’s fine.
[electric guitar music]
Ryan Argast: I just want to tell you that this show right here that we’re having is gonna be one that we’re gonna remember for the rest of our lives, and I seriously thank you so much for that.
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: So we want to play a song stripped down and do it like we did back in the garage, back when we first started this band. Just a guitar, piano, vocals, and you guys.
Ryan Argast: We don’t have a record label. We don’t have a manager, we don’t have a booking agent. We don’t have a publicist. We do all this [expletive] ourselves. It’s us and you, that’s it.
[audience cheering]
Ryan Argast: So, for this song, it’s just us and you.
[“Better Weather” by Marina City]
[gentle electric guitar music]
I found the deepest corners of my mind
Where you used to roam
A projection plays at night
When we buried the rest of our hope
Now you found somebody else
While I’m looking for myself
When you kiss him, do you ever
Think of how my lips felt?
I need some better weather
‘Cause all these clouds are looking like you
Something a little stronger
So I can cure this headache of you
And I’m trying to find my way out of our mess
I need some better weather
‘Cause all these clouds are looking like you
Like you, like you
The clouds look like you
Ryan Argast: If you have a phone, let me see that light. Put that light up, let’s make something special right here.
These days when I call
I know you just let your phone ring
Your voicemail sounds happy
Like you’re surprised to hear from me
Now I’m fogging up windows
And tracing both of our names
When you hold his hands
Did mine ever feel the same?
Ohh ohh
I need some better weather
‘Cause all these clouds are looking like you
Something a little stronger
So I can cure this headache of you
And I’m trying to find my way out of our mess
Need some better weather
‘Cause all these clouds are looking like you
Like you, like you
I fell to the floor
On my knees
Looking for answers
You found for me
I fell to the floor
On my knees
Looking for answers
You found for me
You found for me
Need some better weather
‘Cause all these clouds are looking like you
Something a little stronger
So I can cure this headache of you
And I’m trying to find
My way out of our mess
Ohh ohh
I need some better weather
‘Cause all these clouds are looking like you
Like you, like you
Clouds look like you
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: Thank you so much, thank you.
[“Addicted” by Marina City]
[gritty electric guitar music]
Heaven’s not right
I feel good, but I am not fine
Don’t know, don’t know
Don’t know if I’ll make it out alive
That’s a worry
For another
Another time
So am I getting better?
Or is it finally working?
I feel as light as a feather
But I keep packing on the pounds
Am I alive?
Am I alive?
That’s a worry for another time
[audience cheering]
I’m addicted to all our tragedies
My heart is black and blue
From what you do to me
But I want you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
But I want you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Addicted to tragedies
I’m so high
I’m so high
With just the thought of you
And I lied
I lied
I can’t live without you, girl
I’m not fine
I’m not fine
That’s a worry for another time
Ryan Argast: Hey, Appleton, how low can you go? How low can you go?
Am I getting better?
Or is it finally working?
I feel as light as a feather
But I keep packing on the pounds
Am I alive?
That’s a worry for another time
Ryan Argast: Let me see you jump!
I’m addicted to all our tragedies
My heart is black and blue
From what you do to me
But I want you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
But I want you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Addicted to tragedies
[audience applauding and cheering]
[electric guitar solo]
Say I, I, I, I, I know
Say I, I, I, I, I know
Say I, I, I, I, I know
You’ll be the death of me
I
I’m addicted to all our tragedies
My heart is black and blue
From what you do to me
But I want you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
But I want you
Whoo, ooh
I’m addicted to all our tragedies
My heart is black and blue
From what you do to me
But I want you
But I want you
Aah aah aah aah aah
Aah
Yeah!
[electric guitar solo]
Ohh oh
Ohh ohh
Ohh ohh
Whoo whoo
Aah!
Ohh ohh ohh
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: Hit it!
[“Runaways” by Marina City]
[hard rock music]
Ryan Argast: Ladies and gentlemen, this is my favorite song. I would appreciate if you danced with us.
Mama’s always coked
And her daddy’s always broke
But he does his best with his ex
The pills don’t work no more
It’s something to do when bored
And she don’t know where her shape fits in
She says blondes don’t have all of the fun
Freedom is a loaded gun
All my friends will go to hell
Save yourself, don’t need your help
Everybody’s doing it
So we just gotta go with it
Follow me if you think you can
Ryan Argast: Sing this if you know it.
If you really love me, then you just gotta trust me
‘Cause we won’t stop on running
To places that we can’t see
I’m not running without ya, not leaving without ya
Not living without ya
If you really love me, then you just gotta trust me
‘Cause we won’t stop on running
To places that we can’t see
I’m not running without ya, not leaving without ya
Not living without ya
His mother never leaves him
His father never sees him
And he wonders if he can be a man
He’s a shadow of his brother
Each nail’s a different color, ow
If this is living, he don’t want it
He says liars have all of the fun
The Internet is a loaded gun
All my friends don’t know my name
Every feeling feels the same
If you really love me, then you just gotta trust me
‘Cause we won’t stop on running
To places that we can’t see
I’m not running without ya, not leaving without ya
Not living without ya
If you really love me, then you just gotta trust me
‘Cause we won’t stop on running
To places that we can’t see
I’m not running without ya, not leaving without ya
Not living without ya
Jumping balconies
Hanging off ceilings
You can’t ever leave
I’m not living without you
Jumping balconies
Hanging off ceilings
You can’t ever leave
I’m not living without you
[hard rock music]
Ryan Argast: Appleton, I need you to do a big favor. I need you to sing with me on this one.
If you love me, then you gotta trust me
Audience: If you love me, then you gotta trust me
Ryan Argast: I say, if you love me, then you gotta trust me
Audience: If you love me, then you gotta trust me
Ryan Argast: Hey, hit that drum!
Audience: If you love me, then you gotta trust me
Audience: If you love me, then you gotta trust me
Ryan Argast: One more time, everybody!
If you love me, then you gotta trust me
Audience: If you love me, then you gotta trust me
Audience: If you love me, then you gotta trust me
Ryan Argast: If you really love me, then you just gotta trust me
‘Cause we won’t stop on running
To places that we can’t see
I’m not running without ya, not leaving without ya
Not living without ya
Ryan Argast: Thank you guys so much, seriously.
If you really love me, then you just gotta trust me
‘Cause we won’t stop on running
To places that we can’t see
I’m not running without ya, not leaving without ya
Not living without ya
If you really love me, then you just gotta trust me
‘Cause we won’t stop on running
To places that we can’t see
I’m not running without ya, not leaving without ya
Not living without ya
Jumping balconies
Hanging off ceilings
You can’t ever leave
I’m not living without you
Jumping balconies
Hanging off ceilings
You can’t ever leave
I’m not living without you
Not living with you, oh
Ohh ohh
Not living with you
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: Appleton! Y’all feeling good?
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: Appleton, y’all feeling great?
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: Appleton, you better feel better now!
[“Feelings” by Marina City]
Hey, I got no pressure
I’m finally free
I got no heartache
The heartache don’t got no hold on me
I got three wishes, I don’t need three
I need to always and always remember to be me
I don’t want your loving
And you can keep your cocaine ’cause
I don’t need your helping hand
You can just stay insane, yeah
This is forever, our ties are severed
Don’t mean to test ya, baby, but, this is forever
Ryan Argast: Hands up!
Ooh, ooh, you got me feeling like gold
I gotta shake, sh-shake deep in my soul
We can keep all your highs
Ryan Argast: You better jump so high, you touch that [expletive] sky.
Ryan Argast: Y’all ready?
[lively pop rock music]
I feel it, I feel it, I’m
I’m feeling much better now
I feel it, I feel it, I’m
I’m feeling much better now
I’m so elated, your voice has faded
I’m not feeling defeated
I’m feeling like we made it
No longer anxious, my fears got patience
We made you nameless and faceless
Without no hesitation
Don’t want your loving
And you can keep your cocaine ’cause
I don’t need your helping hand
You can just stay insane, yeah
This is forever, our ties are severed
Don’t mean to test ya, baby, but, this is forever
Ryan Argast: Hands up!
Ooh, ooh, you got me feeling like gold
I gotta shake, sh-shake deep in my soul
You can keep all your highs
You can take all your lows
Ryan Argast: You better jump, you better jump!
Ryan Argast: One, two, three, four!
I feel it, I feel it, I’m
I’m feeling much better now
I feel it, I feel it, I’m
I’m feeling much better now
Ryan Argast: Y’all wanna dance?
Ryan Argast: Let me see you dance, baby!
[audience cheering]
Ryan Argast: Y’all wanna see the ugliest dancer here?
Ryan Argast: Hey, Eric!
Ryan Argast: Give me that drum beat!
[drum and electric guitar music]
Hey, hey, hey, ow
Ryan Argast: Yo, Todor, show everyone how to play that damn guitar.
[electric guitar solo]
Ryan Argast: You all right?
Ryan Argast: Hands up, hands up, hands up, hands up!
Ooh, ooh, you got me feeling like gold
I gotta shake, sh-shake deep in my soul
You can keep all your highs
You can take all your lows
But this is what I finally found
Ryan Argast: Jump up Appleton!
I feel it, I feel it, I’m
I’m feeling much better now
I feel it, I feel it, I’m
I’m feeling much better now
Ooh, ooh, you got me feeling like gold
I gotta shake, sh-shake deep in my soul
You can keep all your highs
You can take all your lows
This is what I finally found
I’m feeling much better now
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: Ladies and gentlemen, this is it. I know I can speak for my best friends back here, my brothers back here. This is one of the coolest shows, if not the coolest show we’ve ever played. Thank you so much.
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: Like I mentioned before, we don’t have a record label, we don’t have a booking agent, we don’t have a manager. We don’t have any of that. It’s just us and you. And it literally means the absolute world. You don’t understand. The absolute world that this many people here came to see a band called Marina City. Just a local band from Chicago, thank you.
[audience applauding and cheering]
[“Tanzanite” by Marina City]
There’s blood in my mouth
And my teeth are kicked in, yeah
[hard rock music]
Now I’m all strung out
I am losing my grip
I’ve walked on thin ice
But I’m better off swimming
Maybe you wouldn’t lie
Ryan Argast: Hands up!
That this is what you wanted, say
Feels like it’s been forever
Since stars in your eyes
We did it for each other
But I sacrificed
The world blew out your glimmer
Hidden gems don’t shine
Diamonds build under pressure
We were tanzanite
Where are your manners?
And where’s your loyalty?
Your words are daggers
But apathy cut me
Never wanted to fight
But I should have said something
Ryan Argast: Hands up!
Maybe you wouldn’t lie, what
That this is what you wanted
Feels like it’s been forever
Since stars in your eyes
We did it for each other
But I sacrificed
The world blew out your glimmer
Hidden gems don’t shine
Diamonds build under pressure
We were tanzanite
We were tanzanite
We were tanzanite
Feels like it’s been forever
Since stars in your eyes
We did it for each other
But I sacrificed
The world blew out your glimmer
Hidden gems don’t shine
Diamonds build under pressure
We were tanzanite
We were tanzanite
We were tanzanite
We were tanzanite
[audience applauding and cheering]
Ryan Argast: We are Marina City and we’ll be Marina City again. Thank you so much.
