Uplift.love Pain is not me but mine.

Pain is not me but mine.

Pain is not my identity.

I feel you my pain.

[piano music] Pain is interesting.

When we feel it, we typically see it as a sign that something is wrong in our bodies.

At first it feels like a signal.

But when you go from doctor to doctor unable to figure out what is the cause, the pain becomes something else It begins to feel as though it's out to get you, to rob you of joy and peace in its presence, almost like an enemy.

It doesn't just impact the person experiencing it, it impacts every person who surrounds them.

For so much of the past four years, I watched my partner Dana, suffer with chronic pain.

What started as a calf injury spread into both legs, went up her sciatica and into her back.

For over a year, doctors had no answers.

Even Eastern medicine practitioners couldn't help.

Then an MRI showed what we were told were spinal abnormalities, and we thought we found the answer.

After resisting the idea of spin surgery for several months, Dana reluctantly agreed as her condition worsened to the point she struggled to even walk.

She went in for the first surgery at the beginning of COVID and six weeks later had to have another emergency surgery after a spinal fluid leak was found.

As she laid alone in the ICU praying for death when they couldn't manage her pain, I felt so helpless and I wondered how we ever got here.

The months that followed were some of the hardest of both of our lives.

Dana was on bed rest for two weeks and slowly began to move again.

For a period of time, we assumed her increased pain was due to surgery recovery.

But as the months went on, we realized the surgeries did more harm than good.

What was supposed to relieve her pain had only caused more, and we felt devastated.

We lived in darkness, isolated thanks to the pandemic, and wondered how we would ever move forward with our lives.

I had stopped taking on projects to help caretake Dana, and after a while I felt compelled to pick up my camera and document our journey.

I believed for a miracle and wanted to have a camera in hand when it happened.

Then slowly, something began to shift.

And for the first time since spine surgery, we felt hopeful and open to the possibility that maybe there was a better way.

Knowing Dana was among countless others all over the world who suffer with chronic conditions such as pain and illness, I wanted to understand, how did we get here?

So we went to visit the ex-spine surgeon Dana had been meeting with weekly, Dr. David Hanscom, who left his practice to help those suffering with chronic pain.

My pain started in 2017 and nobody could figure out or understood where it was coming from.

So I think I had a legitimate injury.

I was running on a treadmill, I pulled a muscle.

And then I have an MRI and I see these results of spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease and a herniated disc at L5 S1 with nerve compression.

And I say, that's it.

Should that have been causing pain?

Does that cause pain in everybody?

Dr. Hanscom has helped hundreds of people go pain free and believed the secret was in understanding the brain and the nervous system.

As we traveled the country and spoke with other experts from various backgrounds, we were surprised to hear similar answers.

Symptoms like pain and illness seemed to be a clue pointing to something else.

Modern pain science now says that the brain has a strong opinion on whether the pain will continue or not.

Even though I'm a pain psychologist and it sounds ridiculous, most of my colleagues just try to change people's thinking, I don't change your thinking.

What I do is I calm the body down first and then the brain starts to rewire.

An understanding, a holistic understanding of body and mind that this is one entity, this is not separate, and that anything that happens in the mind will affect the body and vice versa.

You know, it's the mind really that needs the healing.

Illness and pain are symptoms that youre not living in harmony and that you should be dealing with the symptom not as the problem, but as a message that says do something else.

What was that something else?

Dana had tried so many different modalities for calming her nervous system, yet she was still in pain.

Was there something we were missing?

[piano music] Years earlier, Dana and I had experienced an amazing retreat in Sedona that forever changed our lives.

After seeing some of my work, the founder of the Retreat Center, Ilchi Lee, asked me if I would be willing to create a documentary on healing.

As a world renowned educator, spiritual teacher and author of over 40 books, Ilchi Lee has spent his life sharing ancient practices known to help facilitate healing He wanted to share with the world the power of energy balance and said it was truly the secret to becoming our own best healer.

What sparked my attention was his focus on the brain.

I now knew how much our nervous played a role, and I was so curious how energy impacted the nervous system.

To be honest, I was also skeptical.

Dana had tried energy healing modalities prior to surgery, and she was still in so much pain.

I knew there were people who healed themselves through balancing their energy, and I had so many questions.

I felt like this was the perfect opportunity to understand how this all worked and see if this understanding could help Dana too.

More than just creating a film, it felt like a continuation of our healing journey, so I said yes.

To learn more about this concept of energy balance, we began filming in Sedona, the place where the energy is strongest in all the world.

We met with a local energy expert who could explain connection with energy and how it relates to healing.

[instrumental music] Now you're going to bring your hands together.

We're going to use a little bit of vibration to try to increase the sensitivity.

So you're just going to rub your hands together really, really fast.

Make a fire between your hands, you can feel it getting warmer, right?

Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot.

Ooh.

All right, now you're going to drop your shoulders down, you're going to open up your hands about six inches apart from each other, relaxing your shoulders, focusing on the sensation in your hands.

Now, I want you to very slowly begin to move your hands apart from each other.

And as you move your hands apart from each other, you can begin to feel like a magnetism between both of your hands.

And your hands very gradually, naturally move in and out from each other.

We call this jigam, which really means just to stop thinking.

Because while you're focusing on your hands, you cannot focus on your thoughts simultaneously.

So yeah, energy is measurable.

I mean, even in science, energy is measurable, right?

Think about your own body, right So when you're feeling low energy, like, how do you feel?

Like, you know when you're low energy.

Healing takes huge amounts of energy.

So one of the reasons that people often can't resolve their conflicts or heal is because they don't have any energy emotionally, mentally or physically.

But by virtue of the fact that Sedona has so much energy and you're standing on it, all that energy is being poured into your field.

Energy can be considered in two aspects of it.

So one level is force and force could be destructive, like X-rays.

But the other side of energy is left out of medicine and that's called information.

Energy is information.

The invisible field is what gives structure to matter.

Change consciousness and the matter changes right afterwards.

And that's why energy is so important.

[flute solo] We spent time learning from several other energy practitioners while visiting some of the most powerful vortex locations in Sedona.

The bright energy of the sun is connecting to your heart, and that energy is awakening your pure, bright love inside of you.

So when we awaken our energy senses, we can communicate with the nature.

We can feel the energy, it resonates with us.

[flute solo] [ambient music] What I witnessed over and over from behind my camera was how energy seemed to be a pathway to releasing stored emotions and trauma.

This became most evident for me when we visited a local healer who guided Dana through an intense practice of releasing.

I always considered myself a really strong person because I have been through so much trauma in my life, and some of it starting at a very young age, especially with sexual trauma.

Being molested by an Uncle and raped by a stranger repeatedly and my life threatened.

Imagine.

Where does all of that go?

You think you process it and you talk about it, but I don't think talking is enough sometimes.

Go, Oh, Louder Louder Louder I cant.

Its gonna take some work.

So don't say I can't.

You can.

I can.

You can.

Yeah, can you feel something else coming up?

I don't know what it is, but yeah.

Yeah, let's do it again.

Okay.

Okay.

Ready?

Big breath.

Go.

Louder Louder Louder, louder Louder I found it.

Let it come, let it come, just whatever come, just let it come.

Just let it come, dont stop it.

Let it come, let it come.

It's happy and sad at the same time.

And I believe that because of all of those emotions and traumas that have been stored over the course of a few decades, that the chronic pain was inevitable.

My body would eventually talk to me and say, I need your help.

I need you to help me release this.

And I didn't know.

I tried to fix it in every other way, including incredibly invasive surgery to fix a body that was never broken.

Big burst more, just one more push, ok?

From your dahn jon, go!

Louder Louder, louder Louder [building music] Good job.

Thank you.

I have not accessed that before.

Whats the feeling?

Maybe a lot of sadness and compassion for my younger self, who kept a lot of things stuffed to keep the peace.

But I don't access emotions usually like this.

But it's just information that your body's hanging onto that it no longer needs.

I know so many people that go through chronic pain and chronic illness and their only guidance from the medical system is trying to figure out physically what's wrong or given a pill just to mask the symptoms.

I was given so many pain medications and here I am a year later and I still have pain.

But in moments of complete release, I can access moments where all of that calms down.

As a filmmaker, witnessing my partner release and transform in front of my lens was so inspiring and I was curious about others who had found emotional release to be a critical part of their healing journey.

We heard about a researcher who experienced incredible healing with her knee after a major emotional release.

I wanted to meet with her to hear about her experience firsthand and learn about the research she had done as a result.

So I've had five knee surgeries before.

I was seeing my massage therapist for, I don't know, probably five years every week just to be able to walk.

She recommended, she's like, hey I really think that you need some other type of modality that might help you.

So I think that a mind-body type practice will really help you.

We had started doing a practice called Brainwave Vibration, which is a tool to help people open up all their meridian channels or their energy channels in their body.

All the sudden I started getting just a lot of pain in my knee, and so I just kind of kept going deeper and deeper, just kind of like what, what's kind of going on?

What's happening?

And then all the sudden this huge amount of anger rose, like from my knee up through my leg, up through my spine and out the top of my head and I screamed as this happened.

An extraordinary amount of peace filled my body that I had never felt before.

All the sudden I could walk.

The pain left my body and I could walk just fine.

After this training, I went back home, I stopped taking medication altogether.

People saw a significant change in me.

You know, my undergraduate degree is in science and so I'm curious by nature.

And so I really wanted to know, how does all of this work?

It was extraordinary to do the research and to really be able to from all the people who participated in the study hear the effects for them.

Being able to actually feel your own energetic state and have the tools to change the energetic state, empowers you to be able to manage your own well-being.

Forgiveness being a piece of love, that's what you need to show to yourself to allow more love in.

If you look at the implications of forgiveness around love and and self-acceptance, you can see how they could be one of the ways that leads to healing.

Say, I love myself, I love myself.

Ready?

Ready.

Oh, but I feel like I do.

That's conscious mind.

Eighty to ninety percent, eight out of nine out of ten people will not test positive to I love myself.

Well, that's one of the biggest problems right there, people don't love themselves.

I began to realize this story was something much bigger than our own.

I wanted to hear from those around the country who had experienced healing through finding energy balance within and emotional release.

I mean, like we struggled with infertility for like about almost five years before.

And we had kind of given up on that at that point.

And we weren't, you know, seeking to get pregnant cause we were kind of told it was impossible.

I know body can do miraculous things, but I just didn't know how to tap into it.

If you told me even just a few years ago that I'd be like tapping my belly you know, to healing.

I'd be like, yeah, okay.

And then I learned I was pregnant.

I still think about it and get kind of choked up about it cause it's really a miracle.

I'm 30 months clean off of using heroin and cocaine.

Sometimes I find myself relapsing not on drugs, but in a sense of mind.

There's a side of me that is used to pain and destruction.

As I go inside it's powerful, there's answers.

This is a beginning to be who I was intended to be.

In 2018, I was diagnosed with M.S.

and so they tried giving me medicine, they tried giving me injections, and I was having, you know, bad reactions to all of it.

And rather than relying on pharmaceuticals to fix it, I, I know that I have the power to fix it inside.

I can tell when Im stressed, Im more aware of what stresses me.

But I was able to see inside of me for the first time that zero point.

And I was able to do a lot of forgiving for my family, for myself.

When you let go of that, you just, you feel so much lighter, you feel so much better.

I believed mind-body practices were healing, yet these stories painted a picture of something more.

Love, acceptance, forgiveness.

It's as if energy balance was the pathway to accessing something deep within.

This is the beauty of healing.

I didn't read about it.

I didn't memorize it.

It's real and it's energy.

It's not words, it's not knowledge.

Being willing to get to the root of the blockage, to look at yourself, to open it up.

That's the only way to recover.

That's why it's like sometimes I feel like I'm telling people this magical secret of unlocking yourself and opening yourself.

But it's like if we don't learn to love ourselves and love our bodies and be connected to our bodies, we cannot heal that child inside.

Cause in my mind, healing is not a I healed.

Healing, loving right, living.

It's an action, it's doing.

So healing to me is the practice of acceptance.

As we traveled and documented these stories over several months, I felt something shifting within us.

Suffering is interesting because when you're in it and you feel that darkness and that heaviness, it's like you would do anything to get out of it.

But then you look back a year later and you think, if I didn't experience that level of suffering, I wouldn't feel the massive amount of joy that I do today.

Even with the limitations that I have, I can wake up with a smile on my face every day now and have hope that things can still change.

But if they don't, I'm here now.

And accepting that and letting go of all these expectations of where wish I was or thought I should be, that's freedom.

I love my life.

Even with the pain, I love my life.

You don't fix pain, you transform pain, and once you transform pain you transform your whole life.

Pain doesn't, when it gets transformed, it has an inside and an outside job.

You start to smile differently, feel differently.

And what you used to fear seems to be small because what you've been through is just an amazing transformation.

And that's what it is, pain transforms people, it transforms lives.

In a short period of time, I watched Dana transform before my eyes, Although her pain remained, she had found deep love and acceptance within.

I wondered, what about people experiencing these practices for the first time?

Can a person change their life in a short period of time as they learn to connect their mind and body and calm down their nervous system through energy balance?

Our lives had been forever changed after attending a retreat in Sedona, and we felt this would be the perfect place to bring people together to learn about this ancient wisdom.

Together, we selected 18 people who were struggling in life and were ready for transformation.

My longest running condition are my migraine headaches.

There are mornings I definitely don't want to get up.

It's mentally exhausting to be in pain all the time.

My heart failure is to the point where the cardiologist I see is in the Advanced Heart Failure clinic and my next step will be transplant.

I sometimes feel stuck and I sometimes feel that I need some support to break through my own self-imposed blockages.

All my joints are jacked up so I, everyday feel pain.

I actually want to like change my life.

There isn't really a cure for what I've got going on.

I don't want to be on medication anymore, but like, is there something else I can do?

It doesn't matter what I eat.

Like my stomach is just constantly hurting.

I'm not convinced I know all the layers that exist in healing that are there.

Ive been going to the hospital and they're doing tests on me and they can't really find too much wrong with me.

The focus of this retreat would be simple, teach people how to experience energy balance in their bodies using an ancient energy principle called Water Up, Fire Down.

[rhythmic music] What's interesting about Water Up, Fire Down is once you learn the concepts, you're like, oh my God, that makes so much sense because your core area is where your digestive system is, a lot of important organs are down here so you want it to be warm and working down here.

And with your head, you want it to be cool.

When your head is cool, you're more calm, relaxed, you're more creative, you have a clear mind, right?

It's a very similar circulation flow as the sun shines down on the earth and the water energy in lakes and oceans evaporates and goes up.

So when we become stressed out or we become very emotional, then the energy reverses and thats when we can start having all type of health challenges, when it gets reversed for a long period of time.

Would you check your temperature of your head?

Is it cool or warm?

And how about your belly?

Can you check the temperature in your belly?

Warm, cold?

Don't know?

This is the golden principle of health.

East or west it doesn't matter, if you keep your head cool and belly warm, you are healthy.

I've learned this magical key of how to activate my parasympathetic nervous system at will.

By promoting that circulation and keeping our organs warm and circulating, we reduce inflammation in the body, we increase our well-being, we increase our immunity and also our sense of peace and calm.

Intestine exercise is very, very important, but simple exercise.

You massage your whole organs, even kidneys, by moving your abdomen in and out.

Gently push out like a balloon, expanding out and pull inside.

Would you try?

You are massaging your entire organs.

You are stimulating your vagus nerve.

Those signals goes back to your brain stem, and your brain start to send hormones for relaxation.

What we share is ancient body, mind, energy practice.

It's a practice that was utilized ancient time in Korea that people lived harmoniously with each other and the nature.

The way of living was being able open up the energy channel and create the balance within ourselves with body, mind, energy practice.

And that we realize who we are and then we can begin to feel that connection with the nature and other people and feel the love that's overflowing from one another.

Water Up, Fire Down was said to be the secret to healing.

Could it help people experiencing it for the first time in a five-day retreat?

We asked Ilchibuko, a world-renowned spiritual teacher who has been teaching these ancient principles for over 20 years if she would facilitate the training, and she was excited about the idea of documenting the experience.

As 18 people travelled to Sedona from all over the country.

I was so curious to see how much transformation was possible.

What are you made up of beyond organs or bones?

Atoms.

Yeah, made up of atoms.

Atom, there's the nucleus in the center.

Electron is moving around.

What's in the empty space?

So, there is this energy or vibration.

And this vibration moves according to your movement, according to your emotions, according to your thoughts, your intentions.

So, you are the one who can be responsible for what you are creating every day.

Pain is not me but mine.

Pain is not my identity.

I feel you my pain.

Thank you for showing me where I need to focus.

So we don't want to feel pain, so we numb ourselves.

Then we learn to disengage and disconnect from feeling and we bury.

Then what happens?

We create blockages.

And then when energy is blocked, then we begin to see symptoms like illness.

I didn't realize how desensitized I was.

I initially wanted to run away.

It was just like, wow, I've spent all these years putting things that aren't great for me into my body.

Then no wonder my body would react, manifest in other ways, like sleepiness or depression or anxiety.

It's just stuck in there.

I realized that I have been running away from my pain cause I didn't want to be my mom.

And I was just imagining myself as a child having all of these traumas and just like putting them in my body and then trapping them away.

This idea of I have so much joint pain, and if you think about your joints, they're kind of your stability.

I realized that I've always been searching for stability and no one's ever been able to provide it for me.

And so I've asked, I've been looking and looking and looking and then I realized you're the only one that can provide it for yourself.

I've never given myself self-love, I've never talked to my body, appreciated my body, I always judged it.

I just wanted to be this thing that I saw that others loved.

All this time I could be that for myself.

For the person who hurt me the most I actually visualized myself, which was pretty intense.

Because for the most part it was my choices that caused me so much pain.

Mm mm.

Not everybody knows, but I spent ten years in prison because I accidentally killed somebody in a car accident.

And this somebody was like somebody I loved.

And these last couple of days have been just so cleansing.

[coughing and crying] I've struggled with body issues my whole life.

One of the meditations that we did it was focusing so much on lower abdomen area.

I have never considered that this body was my children's first home.

I think I walked around the whole rest of the day like almost hugging, where I literally just felt an awe and a reverence for what this form that I have hated has done.

And I have never, never been able to say that I love myself.

And I know I still have a lot of work, I can feel more work there.

But honestly, for the first time in 45 years, there was a spark of, oh my gosh, you're amazing, and how lucky am I to be me?

With my medical condition, Im supposed to get lots of rest.

I nap 2 hours a day and I don't do a lot because I'm not supposed to do a lot and I don't feel well.

And we did this energy thing and then this energy shift started to happen, and I could feel this massive amount of energy in my hands and I felt powerful.

And then when I was asked to place my hands on my heart and bring that energy in, it felt like this new depth of power that came to me.

There is something I don't understand about the energy.

The whole week I didn't nap.

I normally have many arrhythmias a day, rhythm, rhythm changes in my body.

I had almost no arrhythmias this week.

If I can give myself energy, I can give myself love.

If I can give myself love, I can love myself for today or tomorrow or the next day or another day.

And something flipped in my mind, maybe I will live?

It really showed up how Ive put so many walls over my heart, you know, from the loss of my mom and probably from my father, you know, kicking me out.

All these walls in my heart have just been to protect myself.

Its just like survival skills, you know?

Don't get too close to someone because they may die or they may kick me, reject me.

I really did not expect that to come up at all.

That was a very, very powerful release, a very, very powerful release.

It was so much needed, because I felt so much lighter afterwards and I feel so much better afterwards now.

The things that truly we are seeking all our lives, it's not out there.

What I was looking for is all along inside here.

When they realize that, then they feel this tremendous self love.

That's when also the healing happens.

[yelling in unison] I had no idea how impactful five days of a retreat could actually be.

I went into it really unsure of my body and its abilities.

It felt miraculous to have the stamina that I did.

Even though I still had some discomfort, it's like the volume on the pain was turned down because learning how to create that amount of energy flow like softened it.

And it was just these moments of like tapping on our bodies and moving our bodies in ways that was generating so much power and energy.

Everything that I've been through, not just with chronic pain and the surgeries, but everything that I've been through, is something that I'm healing from.

This journey woke me up.

In the deepest pain, in the darkest days.

It allowed me to access something within myself that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Before I came to Mago, I was having a lot of stomach issues and they identified that I did have another cyst growing here where that pain was.

They wanted to do a biopsy to see if it was cancer.

So I realized that because of the deaths I was really deeply impacted during the pandemic, I was carrying all this pain within my body and I didn't know how to release all these emotions.

It started to help my body to heal.

I could feel it.

As the days went on, I felt like I had put myself on the path for healing.

I love you.

As I had the privilege of documenting the experience, I can tell you my was forever changed.

Witnessing people connect to themselves for the first time, learn to forgive and love themselves, I felt a shift among all of us I didn't know it was possible.

As we wrapped up five days together, I was in awe of what I witnessed from behind my camera.

If this much transformation was possible in 5 days, I wondered about the next few months.

How much more could their lives change if they continued using these tools?

We stayed in touch with the participants followed up with all those who were willing to share with us about their continued transformations.

Got home next day went, my daughter drove me over for my procedure.

The only thing that stuck in my mind was that the cyst went away.

And I was like, did she just say the cyst went away?

And I was like, okay.

Shes like, yes, it's gone.

She said, our bodies have the ability to heal itself, and your body decided it wanted to heal itself, she said.

I told her, I said, you know, for me, this is, this is really big for me.

I said it really felt good because I was worried that it was cancer.

And I was worried that it might grow into whatever that growth was before that I had within me.

And along with the cyst, I was having very bad knee issues on my right side, my whole right side.

I was having issues, my knee, my hip, my ankle, my foot even here.

So it went away after I was consistently doing the two thousand taps for August, September.

To have that knee pain not there and to not have that hip pain and the ankle pain it's really good and it feels good.

Previously, I was having probably 10 to 15 migraine days a month, and that's with medication, so that's with different preventatives.

And I haven't had a single one of those instances from since the retreat.

I would say I've probably had probably half the number of migraines I was having.

More so than that, the intensity of them is much lower, so I can take less medication.

I had started medication for depression and anxiety about a year ago, Ive been able to also cut in half my depression medication.

I have some autoimmune issues and through meditation, through some of these stretches, through the tapping, it's helped me to manage it.

And I will say I was even resistant because, you know, I grew up in an environment where men arent supposed to admit that they have pain.

And so she told me, it's only 10 minutes, what could it hurt?

I found a deep connection to it.

And now we do it together.

And I always, I always feel better every time.

It's been probably over ten years that my knee has hurt and I had my knee replaced almost two years ago.

And it has been a rough recovery, it still bothers me quite a bit.

In those 21 days, to have found two days so far and I'm sure many more where I have not even thought about my knee, it makes me emotional even thinking about it because I've been in chronic pain for like ten years and this is the first time that I can remember not even thinking about my knee.

Because I didn't even know I could heal to this level.

I just thought it was going to be I'm just going to have pain.

And I'm just have to square with that and be okay with that.

And no, I don't have to, Im not going to be in pain.

I feel a deeper connection to myself and a different love for myself, so I'm able to show up for them in a better way like I've never been able to as their mom.

When Ive spent so long trying to make sure I'm not messing up my marriage and messing up my children and messing up myself, and I have to fix all of the things and then I will be worth it.

No, I'm worth it now.

[blinds opening] My reality is, I wake up a heart patient.

And I do my blood pressure, weigh myself, take my medication, write all of my metrics down, and then I get to start my day.

In the last four years, I have had two surgeries for my heart to get a pacemaker and then move the, the leads.

I've had a shoulder surgery because I had frozen shoulder.

I became disabled and unable to do my job, my vocation that I was doing for 20 years.

And this is the first thing I've tried that I feel, I can track the data, and my medical team is like, yeah, I like this, this is working.

When I think about this and my skepticism comes in here, does that mean that you cure cardiomyopathy this way?

Probably not.

Probably not.

I dont think there's science that says that's going to happen, it's a genetic issue.

Two months ago, I couldn't walk down the half a flight of stairs or up the half a flight of stairs without holding my husband's hand for help.

I can do it by myself now while holding a cup of coffee.

Two months ago, prior to this energy work, my heart rate at least a couple times a week was up in the 160s to 170s, right here like this.

I haven't felt that once in two months.

I didn't do a bunch of testing, I didn't swap out an organ like, no.

Just tapping my body.

Hello body, hello body, I hear you, I'm listening to you body.

Wow.

That, that's miraculous.

Now, do I necessarily agree with the, all the science behind it or theories?

Doesn't matter.

Doesn't matter what I believe.

Just the fact that she's getting benefit out of it.

If this helps build her energy, sustains her, and we live a long and healthy life, great.

I am the luckiest man in the world.

I have to be cautiously optimist about that, cautiously optimistic.

Thank you for the world so sweet.

Thank you for the food we eat.

Thank you for the birds that sing.

Thank you God, for everything.

Amen.

So it's completely changed.

Two months, it's completely changed.

I will not need a heart transplant.

That is in my control for my body and how I am caring for myself.

Epigenetics is taking a gene blueprint and changing the readout, not changing the gene, changing the readout of the gene.

Consciousness controls your genetic readout.

You can make any gene turn into any different protein out of three thousand variations.

Some of them are going to be healthy proteins and some of them could cause cancer.

The function of the mind is to create coherence between your belief and your reality.

I saw firsthand how energy balance creates the space for us to truly love ourselves.

And love is absolutely the foundation for healing.

It's not been on my horizon.

I've not been the the the person who would, who would run around and promote love, you know.

But I have to say, even from a physiological standpoint, it is an emotion that is probably our most health benefit, beneficial emotion.

Love is growth.

Fear is protection.

You can't be in both at the same time.

So what's the point?

It's like you want to live, wake up in love.

It totally is, but love has to be love first for you.

Love is the antidote.

And love is actually what tends to cause the healing effect.

The self-love will actually lead to the healing.

There are so many people with chronic pain or chronic conditions who live wonderfully fulfilled lives because they're not captives to their pain or their disease.

They've found a way to move beyond that and be involved with a much bigger set of concerns rather than being trapped in their problem.

If people know really who they are and they love themself and they come to know how amazing and beautiful that they are and that they really are the creators of their lives, I feel our entire world would change.

So when humans recover Water Up, Fire Down energy balance, we believe that the Earth will recover the balance, energy balance together.

Because humans and the Earth cannot be separated.

Our body energy came from the nature, and when we become healthy, the nature becomes healthy together.

But you saw what world went through during the pandemic like, every corner of the world was touched.

And so if, if a virus have that kind of power, why not you know this kind of powerful idea and truth, you know, deep within every single one of us.

Why aren't we able to get that, spread that throughout the world?

I think we can.

Don't you?

[piano music] As I reflect back, I realize so much of the past four years, I have prayed for a miracle.

I have hoped for the day Dana no longer feels pain, and grieved for the days we have suffered side by side.

And as much time as I have spent documenting healing journeys in creating this film, I realize something within me has been healing all along.

I now feel overwhelming gratitude for this chronic pain journey because without it, Dana and I wouldn't have felt so compelled to learn about this ancient wisdom that has forever changed our lives.

We smile now more than we ever did before chronic pain.

We laugh and sing and play and embrace every moment more fully.

I now have tools that help me when I'm feeling disconnected from myself, and I can much more quickly return to a state of peace and calm.

And for the first time in my life, I feel a newfound love and acceptance for myself I didn't know was possible.

As for Dana, she still experiences pain in her legs and back, but it is so much different than it was before.

And instead of waiting for the day the pain is gone, we are living our best lives today and that alone is a massive shift for us.

There's pain and then there's suffering.

So to be human is to feel pain.

The suffering is our mental scripts we attach to how things must be and should be.

That's what creates a lot of our suffering.

That's why we need to learn how to kind of separate from our thoughts and emotions.

And all these ancient practices thats what they do for us, they move us towards safety, they move us towards healing.

And when you're starting to feel those shifts inside of you, self-love becomes a lot easier.

A healing journey is really not one that has a destination.

I didn't know that.

I actually thought my life will begin when the pain ends.

And in reality, my life began when the pain started.

I just didnt know that.

It is my greatest teacher.

Now I can see how the pain was always guiding us back home.

And if all of it was necessary to help us find our way back to ourselves and back to love, then it was all worth it.

Because as we love ourselves, we can love each other.

And that love will heal our planet together.

The retreat participants are still experiencing continuing transformations.

Taleaha was so inspired after her experience, she decided to write a song about coming home.

As you listen, may these words be an invitation guiding you back home to yourself.

Ive traveled this desert grown weary searching for me and this longing inside me she's always been there like a whisper echoing home finding my way back home finding my way back home finding my way back home to you who are you now who are you Ive wandered the valleys unearthing pieces of me and this heartbeat, inside me shes always been there like a drumbeat she reminds me of home who are you now who are you who are you now who are you I am home This program was made possible in part by Anita Moorjani came back and wrote the book Dying to Be Me after a four-year battle with cancer and near-death experience.
