Till it happened to me, I didn't really know what was going on.

The kids never talked about it.

Before he took a shine to me, it was Harry Carson, the dummy lad.

But I suppose he got too old, too big, too strong.

Putting up too much of a fight.

So one evening, he turned to me.

- And you never really talked about it amongst yourselves?

- We were told to keep quiet.

We were told we'd get into trouble.

It's what you ask kids to do, isn't it?

Harry heard it so often, he decided to never talk again.

We're still telling kids.

That's starting to change now.

That world's slowly washing away.

But there's a lot of people, especially in the police, in the classroom, whatever, that regret its passing.

But you know what?

I think, just let it all be washed away.

Because children shouldn't be asked to take grown-ups on trust.

And they shouldn't learn to be silent.
