In Milwaukee this week, thousands turned out for a protest led by Milwaukee Bucks player Sterling Brown. Those on the street said they feel a sense of connection to a nationwide movement. Protesters are seeking to address issues of race and inequality in their own communities. This week demonstrators in downtown Madison painted in huge yellow block letters “Defund Police.” Those words appear along MLK, Jr. Boulevard just down from the state Capitol building. Several of the groups protesting have expressed the defunding or even dismantling police departments is a priority.
