A quick update now on that legal hold on part of the new Wisconsin abortion law. Last week, a federal judge in Madison temporarily blocked the part of the law that requires doctors who perform abortions to have hospital admitting privileges within 30 miles of their clinics. The challenge was brought by Affiliated Medical Services and Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. The State Justice Department is defending the law. On Wednesday, Judge William Conley extended the temporary stay or block for two weeks, pending his decision whether to issue an injunction, which would block the requirement through trial. A trial date is set for November.
