And at the state capitol, the assembly closed out this year’s legislative session early this morning after passing several bills, including these that await the governor’s signature: A bill that would establish 600-foot restricted zones around the proposed iron ore mine site in northern Wisconsin, and the bill that requires three high school classes in both math and science for graduation. The assembly also passed a constitutional amendment that would allow a majority vote of the state Supreme Court to choose its chief justice, as well as one that would provide that only a state official charged with a serious crime or ethical violation could be recalled. Additionally, the body passed a bill that limits in-person absentee voting hours.
