Call the Midwife

(soft music) I really think that Call the Midwife has inspired me in my practice as a midwife by really reminding me about how midwifery is such a calling. We never know what we can achieve until we try. Most of the time, people really think of midwifery as a very joyful line of work, which really honestly, the majority of the time it is, but we also deal with a lot of really difficult situations. Being able to watch Call the Midwife, I see how those characters are affected in the same way that sometimes I am. Watching the episodes brings back memories of many patients that I fondly remember and situations I fondly remember. It makes me grateful for women inviting me into that sacred space that we think of as birth. Certainly got your reward for all your hard work. It was hard and it was work, but it wasn't hard work. Call the Midwife has influenced me because it really gets at the core vision, mission and core values of being with woman. Call the Midwife really validates the work that midwives do, and also the impact that midwifery can have on a community. That's something that I think all midwives need to be reminded about. We are midwives, and we're also nurses, and we're your friends. While we are looking after you, we'll be whichever of those you need most. (soft music)
