In this clip from the 2005 UW Varsity Band concert, Bucky Badger dazzles the audience with an electrifying live guitar performance of “Wipeout.” Tom Hoban — this performance's featured Bucky — altered the costume’s fingers to give himself the dexterity needed to play. Bucky also joins the crowd to dance to “The Chicken Dance” and “Tequila.”

Bucky Badger shreds a guitar
[audience applauds]
Mike Leckrone: Wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait a minute. Wait, wait a minute. You’re not supposed to come on until later, you know, and cheer the crowd on, but… No, no. [electric guitar riffs] We only have real musicians playing here tonight. You really can’t play that thing, can you?
[Bucky plays “If You Want to Be a Badger”]
[audience applauds and cheers]
Mike Leckrone: I’d expect you to know that song. That’s your song. But you probably don’t know anything else.
[Bucky plays “On, Wisconsin”]
Mike Leckrone: The real test is, can you do a fifth-quarter tune? Can you do, like, “Wipeout?” We’ll find out. One, two, one, two, three, four!
[“Wipeout”]
Mike Leckrone: Bucky Badger! [audience applauds and cheers] Guitar virtuoso! Thanks to his teacher, Tom Hoban. Without Tom, he’d be nothing. How about it, how about a little, I think we oughta do a little more fifth quarter stuff, don’t you, Bucky? How about a little “Tequila?” You can play along for a while. Here we go, here we go! A little “Tequila!” One, two, three, four!
[“Tequila”]
Band: Tequila!
Mike Leckrone: Yeah, but wait a minute. I distinctly remember saying “fifth quarter.” And you’re sitting there. You don’t sit during the fifth quarter! Everybody on your feet, everybody on your feet. If you’re going to be that way, we’re gonna do the “Chicken Dance.” [audience cheers]
Mike Leckrone: Now, everybody has to do the “Chicken Dance!” Now, we’ll start nice and slow to get you going.
[“Chicken Dance”]
Mike Leckrone: Okay, now, now, I wanna tell you, now, last night, last night, we had a 25.2 chorus. I hear you. I don’t think it can be done any faster. So, I don’t think we should really even try to do it again tonight. [audience exclaims] What? You wanna try and do it faster than 25.2? [audience exclaims] We’ll try it, we’ll try it. One, two…
[“Chicken Dance” tempo increases]
Mike Leckrone: Twenty-five flat! Twenty-five flat! [audience cheers and applauds]
[“You’ve Said it All”]
Band: When you say, “Wisconsin,” you’ve said it all! [marching band ending note] [audience cheers and applauds]
