She got a problem She got you She got wind of the The things you do She got angry And she walked out on you She was missin' the The way it was She came home and And she got drunk I guess she wisened up And she walked out on you You've got so much time, but so little direction You've got so much to give, but so little to get out of it I've got no good news, me and God, we called a truce I've got nothing to lose What's your excuse?
instrumental interlude with steel guitar solo
Come out west When the times get hard Wakin' up, you start to wonder If you should come out west Where the Michigan wind don't blow You've got so much time, but so little direction You've got so much to give, but so little to get out of it I've got no good news, me and God, we called a truce I've got nothing to lose I've got no good news, me and God, we called a truce I've got nothing to lose What's your excuse?

Come on baby Like you used to Come on baby You don't know what I've been goin' through I've been up all day, I've been out all night Pulling a heavy load Come on baby And then I gotta hit the road Get back on track To the next town Pick up the slack You better put your foot down right now From Durango down to Santa Fe, Lubbock by the morning light Open your eyes You're bound to be up all night I need somebody to talk to I need somebody who's there Out on the highway it's so lonesome 20,000 roads goin' nowhere
instrumental interlude with steel guitar solo

"King of Milwaukee"
tic, tic of drumsticks setting tempo
Went for a ride with a girl from Minnesota Goin 95, chasing the sun Wondering why nobody ever told you To be somebody you can't be everyone I want a house in the middle of a farm field I wanna teach my children some virtue I want a shack in the middle of the mountains I wanna hear my voice echoing off them I want a high rise up above the skyline I wanna be the king of Milwaukee I want to go where no one else can find me I wanna get out, I wanna get out Got a real job, and another set of problems Drawing circles on maps in between calls She remembers in her sleep all the plans she's forgotten Wakes up at six and forgets them all I want a house in the middle of a farm field I wanna teach my children some virtue I want a shack in the middle of the mountains I wanna hear my voice echoing off them I want a high rise up above the skyline I wanna be the king of Milwaukee I want to go where no one else can find me I wanna get out, I wanna get out Met a man, 80 years old Maybe looked 40 and a day Had all the time in the world Told him about the plans we had made He said get out Get those thoughts out of your brain And out into the world I want a house in the middle of a farm field I wanna teach my children some virtue I want a shack in the middle of the mountains I wanna hear my voice echoing off them I want a high rise up above the skyline I wanna be the king of Milwaukee I want to go where no one else can find me I wanna get out, I wanna get out I wanna be the king of Milwaukee I wanna be the king of Milwaukee

Got a song here for ya called "Bad News."
"Bad News"
When I heard you were back in town Changed my phone number and my address And moved in with my parents I thought I'd be safe, they never did like you Within days, of course, you found out Woke up and my voicemail was full And my car had disappeared overnight My friends all said the same thing, you were bad news When I heard you were coming around Withdrew all my money from the bank And I gave it to the whales Cause I knew otherwise I'd spend it all on you And you were bad news You were bad news Like your tongue sticking to the flagpole You were bad news Like your car crashing through the front window You were bad news And the paperboy is here And Mom and Dad are reading about some bad news Well I hear they're putting you away They let you off easy with 90 days Remember when you called me to bail you out? You said I could be your savior Well I guess you're getting early release They're shortening your sentence to 45 days You'd be amazed What that warden considers good behavior You were bad news Like your tongue sticking to the flagpole You were bad news Like your car crashing through the front window You were bad news And the paperboy is here And Mom and Dad are reading about some bad, bad news
instrumental interlude with steel guitar solo
You were bad news Like a midnight knock on the screen door You were bad news And a deputy is standing on the front porch And you were bad news And she's takin' off her hat And Mom and Dad are bracing for some bad, bad news
instrumental interlude

Got a bit of a slower one for ya. This one I wrote about my grandpa who was a Word War II Navy vet. It's called "Grandpa's Tattoos."
"Grandpa's Tattoos"
When I was just a boy My Grandpa used to set me on his knee He'd make up little stories And I would sit and rattle his keys My eyes would get distracted By the pictures he had drawn on his arms I was amazed when he told me he'd put em there in 1944 In Grandpa's tattoos, A young ambitious boy becomes a man In Grandpa's tattoos Are victories we'll never understand That old green ink The story of a world that he once knew A world that we might never know ourselves In Grandpa's tattoos
instrumental interlude
When he was just a boy, enlisted and set sail at 17 And 16 million kids went off to save the world from tyranny I remember back when I was that age, Watching the twin towers coming down Well I had the love for country But the urge to serve was lost on me somehow In Grandpa's tattoos A young ambitious boy becomes a man In Grandpa's tattoos Are victories we'll never understand In that old green ink The story of a world that he once knew A world that we might never know ourselves, In Grandpa's tattoos A world that we might never know ourselves In Grandpa's tattoos

We got another brand new one for you here. This one's called "Lonelier than Me."
"Lonelier than Me"
tic,tic of drumsticks
I loved somebody, long time ago She was the only one who could touch my soul I spent my 20s letting you go And what you're doin' now I don't wanna know But I bet you're lonely, lonelier than me I bet you're lonely, lonely as can be I bet you're crying, crying, crying in your sleep I bet you're lonely, lonelier than me
instrumental interlude with steel guitar solo
There is a dark space in the back of my mind Where I seldom wander, but I go time to time And I know it's wrong, and I know it's dumb Yet some part of me is still under your thumb And I bet you're lonely, lonelier than me I bet you're lonely, lonely as can be I bet you're crying, crying, crying in your sleep I bet you're lonely, lonelier than me And a oooh Uh huh hooo I bet you're lonely, lonelier than me I bet you're lonely, lonely as can be I bet you're crying, crying, crying in your sleep I bet you're lonely, lonelier than me
instrumental interlude with steel guitar solo

All right. Thank y'all very much. Well hey it's been a great honor to play on our wonderful public television station here in Wisconsin. We are the Driveway Thriftdwellers. Thanks everybody for listening in the audience and at home. Thank you so much for having us. We got one more song for you. It's called "Northern Accent."
"Northern Accent"
In a honky tonk in Texas met a dark haired girl You know I keep an eye out all over the world I asked her to two-step, she asked me what I meant And wouldn't you know, she had a northern accent Out in northern California with an ocean view She was trying to hug a redwood with some surfer dude I don't believe she said exactly what she meant She went and concealed she had a northern accent She had a northern accent She had a northern accent One look at that woman and your mind'll bend What does it for me is her northern accent
instrumental interlude witih steel guitar solo
In an Indiana sunset I was pitching hay When a little silhouette came walking my way She asked me for a dollar, but I didn't have the sense She took me to the bank with her northern accent She had a northern accent She had a northern accent One look at that woman and your mind'll bend What keeps you coming home is her northern accent
instrumental interlude with steel guitar solo
On a rocky old trail up by Spanish Peaks The wind was blowin' and I could barely speak She was tired of the sun in New Mexico Dreaming of December and Wisconsin snow Dreaming of December and Wisconsin snow She had a northern accent She had a northern accent I already knew she was heaven sent What takes me to the bank is her northern accent She had a northern accent She had a northern accent One look at that woman and your mind'll bend What does it for me is her northern accent She had a northern accent She had a northern accent She had a northern accent
