Frederica Freyberg:
I’m Frederica Freyberg. Tonight on “Here and Now,” we begin with primary election news. There is a winner in the Republican primary in the 6th Congressional District. Glenn Grothman of Campbellsport held a 219-vote lead over Joe Leibham of Sheboygan in the Republican primary held August12. After a canvass of votes earlier this week, Leibham just today announced he will not seek a recount. The seat is being vacated by long-serving US representative Tom Petri. Grothman will now face Winnebago County executive Mark Harris in the Novemberelection.
Another close race in the Democratic primary in Wisconsin state senate district 17, and in this race there will be a recount. Following a canvass of votes Ernie Wittwer of Hill Point has a seven-vote lead over Pat Bomhack of Spring Green. Late today Bomhack announced he will file a petition for a recount. In Wisconsin’s 87th Assembly District, a recount is underway. Michael Bub of Medford filed a petition seeking a recount in the Republican primary. The official canvass shows Bub trailing James Edming of Glen Flora by 17 votes in this north central Wisconsin district.
