WPT's "In Wisconsin" Reports on Accomplishments of Woman Who Lived a Double Life

For More Information: Lynn Brockmeyer, WPT publicist, 608-263-3364, [email protected] Joel Waldinger, series producer, 608-890-2840, [email protected]   The next episode of In Wisconsin on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) features reports on the remarkable accomplishments of a woman who disguised herself as a man to become a pilot, edible foods that can be found in both the wild and the heart of the city, and a sustainable forestry operation in Menominee County. The newsmagazine airs 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17 on WPT and is available in high definition. WPT will encore the program at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20. The program also will air at 11:30 a.m. on Milwaukee's MPTV and on WDSE-TV in Duluth at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20.  In Wisconsin Videographer Wendy Woodard tells the inspiring story of Dorothy Douglas, aka DJ Douglas, and her remarkable accomplishments. With a passion for flying, she disguised herself as a man to become a pilot and made a name for herself as "Sam Douglas." Viewers also will meet Sam Thayer, one of the nations best foragers. He is the creator of the nation's first nature trail dedicated to teaching people about edible wild foods, at the Standish Price Wild Food Interpretive Trail in Price County. Jo Garrett reports.  In Wisconsin Reporter Liz Koerner, features an urban forager who teaches students at Madison's Willy Street Coop how to create an all-natural meal with edible wild plants found in the city.  In Wisconsin Reporter Andy Soth visits the forestry operation on the Menominee Reservation and the legacy of Chief Oshkosh. Those efforts have provided a living for employees at the Menominee Tribal Enterprises for 100 years and have resulted in an increase of trees in the forest. This program's video postcard features a winter tour of the University of Wisconsin Arboretum.
