Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) will broadcast the 22nd-annual National Geographic Bee at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 27. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject and increase public awareness about geography.During the bee, moderator Alex Trebek challenges student finalists with questions about meteorology, international affairs, culture and social history as they compete for $25,000 in college scholarships.The competition begins at school and state levels for students in grades four through eight with each state producing a semi-finalist. After winning the Wisconsin state geography bee in Madison on April 9, Vansh Jain, a 6th grader at Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk Elementary School in Minocqua emerged as Wisconsin's semi-finalist. He will be competing at the championship in Washington, D.C. for scholarship funds up to $25,000. This is the second time Jain has participated in the national bee.
