SUMMARY
The Ready To Learn Project Assistant works collaboratively with the PBS Wisconsin Education Engagement team on local implementation of The Ready To Learn Initiative, a hands-on initiative that activates PBS KIDS content through intentional learning opportunities crafted for children and families by PBS member stations and partners. The goal of Ready to Learn is to promote early learning and school readiness, with a particular interest in reaching children ages 2-8 from low-income families.

The Project Assistant will contribute to the implementation of child and family-focused events in Beloit, the community in Wisconsin where PBS Wisconsin Education’s Ready to Learn work will be focused over the next three years. Programs are planned and facilitated in partnership with a coalition of organizations, our Learning Neighborhood, who all share a goal of serving early learners in Beloit.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-progress or completed Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), Social Work, Curriculum and Instruction, or Education-related field required
  • Experience with working with young children in an educational setting
  • Experience facilitating in-person programs for young children
  • Experience working with families from varying religious, linguistic, cultural, racial backgrounds
  • Experience using educational videos, games, or apps to engage children and families in learning is preferred
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative working style and team-player oriented
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license required

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work collaboratively with the project manager and the rest of the PBS Wisconsin Education Engagement team
  2. Organize and manage physical Early Learning supplies and materials in our office (Vilas Hall, located on UW-Madison campus)
  3. Attend and assist facilitating virtual and Beloit-based professional development events and family engagement events, including three summer camps, monthly story times, career awareness academies for early learners and two Community Carnivals in Beloit
  4. Track and document data related to our in-person and virtual professional development events
  5. Keep calendar up to date and communicate effectively across a variety of platforms, including email and Slack
  6. Maintain the standards of ethics and excellence described in Ethics for Wisconsin Public Media Staff, which can be found online here.
  7. Other duties as assigned

SALARY
$15 an hour

ANTICIPATED HOURS PER WEEK
20 hours per week

REMOTE WORK DETAILS
This position is partial remote. All in-person events will take place in Beloit. Occasional visits to Vilas Hall on UW-Madison’s campus will also be necessary for organizing program materials. Mileage reimbursement will be provided as applicable.
