JOB SUMMARY
The Financial Specialist is an integral part of the PBS Wisconsin team handling purchases and a variety of financial transactions necessary for the statewide broadcast and multi-media service. The Financial Specialist maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, reconciles transactions, creates reports, provides staff with financial processing support, and supports PBS Wisconsin’s overall financial management. Reports to the PBS Wisconsin Finance Manager.
EDUCATION
Required
Associate’s DegreeĀ or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE
-At least two years’ experience in accounting, finance, or related field.
-At least one year experience gathering, preparing, and organizing fiscal records and related materials.
-At least one year experience processing, monitoring, and reporting on receipts and payments.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience explaining purchasing policies and procedures, particularly to non-financial colleagues and staff.
-At least two years’ professional (non-student) work experience using financial information systems.
-At least two years’ experience with purchasing goods and services.
-At least two years’ experience within or working with a purchasing and/or an accounts payable team.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
-Experience in Microsoft suite, e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
-Experience with Microsoft Access or similar database.
-Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, work independently and work in teams. Demonstrated desire to learn and a proactive attitude.
-Strong organizational skills as evidenced by experience in multi-tasking while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, timeliness, and attention to detail.
-Experience in finance in a higher education setting or a working knowledge of WISER, UW Purchasing or other UW financial systems.
-Experience in a media environment.
-Experience with project management.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares and advises on general financial transactions and reconciles transactions. Creates general reporting on transactions. Maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customers service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management.
- 20% Audits, monitors, organizes, and updates fiscal records, reports, and affiliated materials
- 20% Audits or processes transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
- 20% Audits or reconciles original purchase documents with payments
- 20% Drafts basic communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
- 20% Answers general fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
SALARY
Expected pay is between $20 and $23 per hour. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.

This is a 50% position and the candidate is expected to work 20 hours a week. A routine schedule will be determined in conversation with the PBS Wisconsin Finance Manager.
This position is headquartered in Madison, WI and the successful candidate will be expected to work at least a portion of the time in the PBS Wisconsin offices which are located on the UW-Madison campus. PBS Wisconsin is open to considering a hybrid work arrangement where the employee works some days in the office and some days remotely. A mid-May hire date is anticipated for this position.
