Central Time Producer

POSITION SUMMARY

Create compelling and inspiring conversations for our statewide audience, developing and producing segments for WPR’s live afternoon program Central Time.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or other related field preferred, with 2 years of journalism experience; otherwise four years’ journalism experience is required.

MINIMUM YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE

At least two years relevant experience in journalism, broadcast experience preferred.
Superior communication skills, including excellent writing skills for broadcast and web.
Proven ability to work in both independent and collaborative settings.
Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage competing responsibilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of journalism ethics.
Demonstrated knowledge of reporting techniques and research methods.

NOT REQUIRED BUT DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in broadcasting, podcasting or with live, call-in talk programming.
Experience hosting and interviewing guests for broadcast programs.
Knowledge and understanding of Wisconsin news, culture, issues and personalities.
Knowledge of Associated Press Style.
Experience with document sharing and virtual meeting software (e.g. Google docs, Slack, Zoom, etc.).
Experience meeting daily deadlines.
Ability to operate audio editing software and audio recorders

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ASSIGNED PERCENTAGES

Researches and develops production strategy for one or more programs across broadcast and digital platforms 20%
Produces, develops, and edits content that may include identifying topics, themes, guests, conducting pre-interviews and/or interviews, writing, and/or integrating content for multimedia platforms 40%
Performs daily operational activities for live and pre-recorded content, and may direct the editorial and creative process of production activities 15%
Collaborates with other content creators in pre- to post-production processes, prepares materials, and handles logistics for broadcast and/or digital publications 10%
Maintains familiarity with studio equipment and/or applicable technology for production 10%
May schedule and direct operational activities for content production, including live/recorded studio or field productions 5%

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Standard work hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
