BORDERS and NEIGHBORS preview (2 min)
There are two kinds of borders. Borders in the minds and physical borders. Mexico is a place where cultures have met for long time. Mexican art today is a place of synthesis. My Mexican heritage ties in with what I do today in the United States making altars to carry on the tradition of remembering our ancestors. Paper is not considered as something you would use in jewelry but my work here in Mexico is about the value of the handmade in our technological age. We're an incubator here in East L.A. for artists of the Chicano Movement. We're creating murals on the spot and it's an incredible fusion of cultures. The early Mexicans said life and death are inseparable and we celebrate life through art.
