Cherry Pie

Give your pie a clever name – and tell us about your crust and filling.

Taste of Summer Cherry Pie. Our pie crust is a tried and true one that we have used for several years. It is a combo of butter (from Wisconsin of course) and shortening. We also use a bit of chilled vodka along with the ice water in the crust. The vodka doesn’t add any flavor to the crust and the alcohol cooks off leaving a very tender and flaky crust. The filling is from cherries picked in Door County (shout out to Choice Orchards!).

Was your pie underbaked, overbaked or just right? What was your favorite part of the process?

Just right! We enjoy making pies. Summer just wouldn’t be summer without a Door County cherry pie.

How did you add a Wisconsin touch to your flavors or decoration?

We only use Door County cherries (best pie cherries in the world!) for our cherry pie. For a Wisconsin theme decoration, we cut out a Wisconsin shape in the crust then cut a smaller piece from the pie crust and placed it inside the silhouette. The leftover piecrust shapes were great to snack on.

How did you do?

Absolutely lovely.
