Classic Apple and Lemon Meringue Pies – My Mom's pie crust recipe makes 3 crusts, so I made 2 pies!
Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.
These are by far two of the best looking pies I have ever made and both tasted excellent. I have made Apple pie many times but this time I tried to make the top crust a little more interesting and my design turned out great! This was only my second time making Lemon Meringue and it was 100% improvement. The color and flavor were really good. My meringue did pull away from the crust after the slice was pulled out, but still an excellent pie. I did learn not to try to fix the meringue after it's on the pie; you get one chance. I tried fixing the center dollop which made it taller so it browned differently when cooked.
Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.
My Wisconsin twist this week was using my Mom's recipes. She makes great pies; they are always requested at Thanksgiving. Mine will probably never be as good as Mom's but I am getting closer.
