Baking Challenge

Treacle Tart

Give your tarts a name based on the flavors and decoration – and tell us about your recipe.

Wild Blueberry Treacle Tart. I used Mary Berry’s recipe and followed it exactly except for the addition of blueberries, which go really well with the lemon. I ended up finding some syrup called Blue Agave Golden Light. I don’t think this was the correct kind of golden syrup to use because my filling turned out very loose, even though I put in double the breadcrumbs called for in the recipe. It was a delicious tart, but didn’t hold together when it was cut into. That said, my son still liked it so much that he asked me to make it for his next birthday!

Now that you survived this challenge, what words of wisdom do you have to share?

Make sure to use use the extra baking sheet under the tart in the oven, which is called for in the recipe, because mine boiled over in several spots! Also, use the correct golden syrup. Next time I think I will order it online and make sure it’s British Golden Syrup.

Tell us about how you added a Wisconsin twist.

I added wild blueberries that we picked on the weekend up in the forest near Pembine, WI!

How did you do?

It’s not pretty, but it’s edible.
