Baking Challenge

Rum Baba

Give your cake a name based on the ingredients and decoration – and tell us about the origin of your recipe.

Just Your VERY Average Babas

Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.

When I tasted the cake part I thought, “Huh. This tastes like NOTHING.” I’m a teetotaller so there was no alchohol added, but I added lots of other flavors to the dough. Eh. Not so much of it translated into the final product. Once I put the cream and fruit on it was pretty okay, but would I make them again??? Mm…

Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.

I made these boring cakes Wisconsin-y by using our own chicken’s eggs, Wisconsin butter and Wisconsin cream. I was thinking about “mixin’ it up” this year and making everything miniature. We’ll see. Sigh. Last year’s first challenge didn’t go so great either. And darn that Rebecca from Madison (assuming it’s the same Rebecca from last year). Every single one of her bakes is always gorgeous. Totally jealous. Love the rhubarb upside down cake. Wow!

How did you do?

Yikes! And not happy about it.
