Apple cherry upside down cake

I combined a vanilla yogurt cake with the apples and cherries covered with a cinnamon spiced caramel. I really like the topping with a hint of spice and the cake is moist and flavorful. I did some modifying with the cake mix by decreasing the sugar by half a cup and it kept the cake from getting too sweet with the topping. The cherries were hard to see with the darkness of the caramel but the taste was there.

Where I live we are lucky to have cherry orchards as well as many apple orchards around. Combining the two fruits seemed like a natural combination. This would be a great cake to make in the fall around Thanksgiving when you could add some variation and add some more spices to the cake mix.
