24 Sweet Buns

Give your creation a name – and tell us about your recipe.

Friendship Kolaches – My friend, Lynn, of Czechoslovakian decent, generously shared her Grandma's Kolache recipe with me. It could go as far back as her Great-Grandma, she thinks. Lynn enjoys baking, too, so she came over to my house and taught me how to make Kolaches. Her Grandma made them often when Lynn was growing up. We had so much fun rolling small dough balls and shaping them into a disc with sides to hold the filling. Lynn and I are college buddies and our friendship and her knowledge – and Grandma's – resulted in some amazing little morsels of goodness!

Now that you’ve survived this challenge, what words of wisdom can you share?

There's nothing like having a dear friend by your side when facing a challenging bake. She's an excellent teacher with a perfect, old and wonderful recipe! We had so much fun!

Tell us about how you added a Wisconsin twist.

My Wisconsin twist was using a remarkable recipe from the Czech settlement in Northeastern Wisconsin! The Kolache recipe could not have matched the description of sweet buns better, using a yeasty sweet dough! The fruit fillings I used were cherry, lemon and raspberry.

How did you do?

Absolutely lovely.
