Baking Challenge

Cherry Pie

Give your pie a clever name – and tell us about your crust and filling.

Pointer Cherry Pie. As I walked through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus on my way to work, I noticed a cherry tree laden with ripe fruit. I could hardly believe my eyes as I had been pondering how I was going to make it to Door County to obtain fresh cherries for my Week 9 Challenge. I soon as I arrived in my office, I sent an email out to the campus’s Building & Grounds Supervisor asking if there was a way I could obtain permission to pick some of the fruit. His reply was "yes" … as long a I gave him one-half of whatever I baked! That evening I returned to campus to pick enough cherries to make two pies. The next morning I made good on my end of the deal and delivered one of the pies to the Building & Grounds Supervisor. So this week’s challenge is dedicated to the students, staff and faculty who call themselves the Pointers at UWSP and who helped me to meet this week’s challenge!

Was your pie underbaked, overbaked or just right? What was your favorite part of the process?

The pie was just right. My favorite part of this bake was the way I obtained the cherries of the pie.

How did you add a Wisconsin touch to your flavors or decoration?

Fresh Wisconsin cherries on the inside and cherry-design steam vents … summer in Wisconsin, through and through.

How did you do?

Rocked it.
