Baking Challenge

24 Sweet Buns

Give your creation a name – and tell us about your recipe.

Chocolate Cherry Tahini Buns. I used the recipe for chocolate tahini challah buns from the Smitten Kitchen blog and added dried Door County Cherries to the filling. The dough is soft and rich and the filling is flavorful but not too sweet. I doubled the recipe to make 24 buns, and now my freezer is full of deliciousness (you’re welcome, Future Rebecca).

Now that you’ve survived this challenge, what words of wisdom can you share?

Once you’ve developed some baking instincts, trust them! I made this recipe several months ago (sans cherries) and the dough turned out dry. This time I went back to my usual bread-baking techniques and it turned out better. I didn’t add the full measure of flour at the beginning and checked the temperature of the buns (and found they were done) 5 minutes before the time in the recipe.

Tell us about how you added a Wisconsin twist.

I added dried Door County cherries to the filling and used a lot of Wisconsin dairy and eggs.

How did you do?

Rocked it.
