24 Sweet Buns
Give your creation a name – and tell us about your recipe.
St. Lucia Buns – I used the King Arthur Flour recipe & made all 24 buns and finished exactly on time!
Now that you’ve survived this challenge, what words of wisdom can you share?
Be sure to coil your rope tightly or your buns will unravel during rising & baking. Also, be sure to put your raisins into the coil right away or they will fall out easily after baking.
Tell us about how you added a Wisconsin twist.
It doesn’t get more Wisconsin than these. We have a strong heritage of Scandinavian settlers. (I hope I made my ancestors proud today!) When I was a little girl, my parents gave me the Kirsten doll from Pleasant Company (a Madison-based company) & I was completely mesmerized by her. As you can see, I still have her today! And in her Christmas story, she made her family St. Lucia buns. In my dough, I used saffron from Penzeys – also a Wisconsin-based company – and eggs from my backyard chickens.
