Baking Challenge

Rum Baba

Give your cake a name based on the ingredients and decoration – and tell us about the origin of your recipe.

"Baba Old Fashioned – Sweet"

We used Paul Hollywood’s recipe for the baba itself, but added a twist of Wisconsin’s favorite drink in the syrup and toppings!

Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.

Overall, it went pretty well. We’ve never had or ever heard of rum babas, but thought we’d give it a try. The dough was extremely sticky… and led to a bit of frustration when trying to knead it. However, they turned out quite tasty and sweet! The best part was tasting them with friends at our watch party! They enjoyed the nod to Wisconsin’s favorite drink. 🙂

Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.

Instead of using rum in the syrup, we used brandy and Door County cherries. The cherries were placed in the center under the whipped cream. For the whipped cream, we used cream from Sassy Cow Creamery from Columbus, WI with orange zest. We topped it off with a maraschino cherry and an orange slice!

How did you do?

Pleasantly satisfied.
