State Park Campfire Cran-Apple Pie
Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.
This week's bake was full of proud and humbling moments! As I've never baked anything over a campfire, I was proud of even attempting it. However, that was quickly dashed by my pie dough turning into a sticky, gooey mess after becoming too warm. While this was a humbling setback, the pie ultimately turned out pretty well. I'm pretty proud of not burning it over the open flame. And my family even said it was the best pie I've made!
Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.
I decided to spice up my traditional apple pie by using Wisconsin cranberries from Warrens, WI and local butter. The cranberries added a nice tart flavor. However, the Wisconsin twist I'm most excited about is that the pie was baked over a campfire while camping with my family at Wyalusing State Park! I even added a campfire scene to the top of the pie. This bake combined several things I love most – baking, Wisconsin state parks, and family!
