24 Sweet Buns

Give your creation a name – and tell us about your recipe.

I've made Golden Raisin and Pistachio Packer Buns and Milwaukee Brewer Blueberry and Lemon Buns. The recipe uses a sweet dough with two variations on the filling. For the Packer buns, pistachios and golden raisins were used for the green and gold along with honey, cinnamon and cardamom. The Brewer buns had blueberries and I made lemon sugar for the filling. Both were frosted with a lemon flavored icing.

Now that you’ve survived this challenge, what words of wisdom can you share?

I found the filling with all the ingredients, including the butter mixed together, stuck to the dough better than spreading the butter and then adding the other filling ingredients. I baked the buns all at one time. I could have done it in two batches. Juggling the trays to switch oven shelves mid-bake was a little tricky. I almost lost some off the tray. That would have been an error.

Tell us about how you added a Wisconsin twist.

The Packers and the Brewers are my Wisconsin twist this week. It was fun exploring flavor combinations to reflect the teams' colors. I also used local honey and berries from the farmers' market and Wisconsin dairy ingredients. These buns scored a hit at my house (pun intended).

How did you do?

Pleasantly satisfied.
