Hand-Raised Pie: Nadiya Hussain's Recipe

Give your pie a name based on the ingredients and decoration.

Middle Eastern Hand-Raised Samosa Pie – This pie used lamb with vegetables and vibrant spices and herbs. The hot water crust had turmeric added to it.

Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.

I had never attempted Middle Eastern baking before this week. I wanted to take a picture of a slice of the pie but the crust crumbled and, due to the spices and herbs, the texture of the pie was very dark – almost black. The bottom of the crust was crisp and not soggy. The pie tasted very good but it had a little kick to it due to the red chili flakes. Perhaps people from the Middle East like food that has a kick or tastes spicy. The pie tasted very good!

Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.

The lamb and coriander were purchased at the farmer's market. Since I was doing this challenge, Deanna gave me a good piece of lamb to use for my recipe. Other WI products in the pie were an egg, potatoes, onions and peas.

How did you do?

Absolutely lovely.
