Upside Down Aronia Berry & Strawberry Cake
Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.
This was my first attempt at an upside down cake and I’m pretty pleased with how well the design held! The "flip" at the end was challenging and it probably didn’t help that we used a dinner plate (not completely flat) instead of a cake plate and the cake slid quite a bit. But with some creative trimming it didn’t look too bad. Once its cut up and served no one will be the wiser!
Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.
I learned about Aronia berries (also called black chokeberries) at the WPT Garden Expo in a lecture about uncommon fruits. In fact, Garden Expo is where I bought the berries used in this cake! I’ll be growing Aronia berries in my yard soon and love that this "super food" pairs well with the Wisconsin-favorite strawberry.
