Star Baker

How did this baker brighten our summer?

We came to know Kevin for his homegrown raspberries, a divine “Pink Lemonade” Meringue he whipped up for Desserts Week, and a gingerbread construction of the Allen-Bradley Clock Tower in Milwaukee!

Our favorite Wisconsin Twist (pictured)!

We’ve given short shift in our Star Baker recaps to all the stunning Designer Fruit Tarts submitted during Week 3, but Kevin helps us remedy this. His “Old World Fruit Tart” was designed to look like the Clausing Octogonal Barn at Old World Wisconsin. Kiwis, strawberries (barn walls), blueberries and raspberries (barn roof) cover a vanilla creme patissiere.

A choice quote or piece of Star Baker wisdom:

We got a chuckle over Kevin undermining — in the same sentence — his own boisterous warning about the use of sugar in his tart: “DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH SUGAR IN THE PASTRY! The recipe that I was using called for 1/4 cup of sugar. Instead I added 3/4 of a cup. It tasted like a sugar cookie and. . . not that bad.” Sugar cookies are delicious, Kevin!

How did you do?

I participated in all 10 Great Wisconsin Baking challenges this summer — I’m a Star Baker!
