Baking Challenge

Mini Pies

Give your baked creation a name and tell us about your flavors. Also, what are you most proud of?

Tower of Mini Pies – both apple and cherry pies made with a pan that I actually had in my collection. I am most proud of how they turned out – very sturdy, good crust, nice color; I am most proud of the fillings as I made them myself last summer when the fruits were ripe. I had "canned" them and I used them throughout the year in pies, bars, as cheesecake toppings, or on pancakes.

The key to this week’s challenge is your creative presentation. Describe your display.

I have been a big fan of fantasy movies like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings … and there is always a tower of some sort as the center piece or setting of a plot. My favorite Disney movie is "Tangled," and Rapunzel is in a tower, of course! So this is my "Tower of Pies." I had more of them to use, but I only used 5 in this display with some flowers in the background. It could be a fantasy world of "Candy Land" where you live in a Sugar Crush or Candy Crush environment. If that were the case, I would totally live in a tower of pies.

It’s Wisconsin Week, so you need to showcase a super Wisconsin twist to your recipe and/or arrangement. Tell us about it.

The Wisconsin twist is using my own fillings made from our own produce. The flower arrangement (non-edible) in back of the display are wildflowers from our gardens, for display purposes only.

How did you do?

It’s perfect – and I’m not sharing!
