Baking Challenge

Torte Cake

Give your dessert a clever name – and tell us about your recipe.

Passover Double Chocolate Almond Torte – Who can resist chocolate, butter, five whole eggs, and almonds in a rich cake? It's a delicious treat for Passover – or anytime.

What was the biggest surprise during your baking journey? Did you use any unconventional approaches? What did you learn along the way? Tell us about it!

No surprises! I learned more about the Passover holiday because of this recipe. One tradition involves not eating flour, and because of that the recipe fits perfectly into this week's challenge.

How did you add a Wisconsin twist to your flavors or decoration?

I used Wisconsin eggs and butter, as well as Penzey's cocoa and vanilla extract. To honor the Passover holiday, I prepared and decorated it per the directions (as it did not seem appropriate to make substitutions and/or decorate with a Wisconsin theme). My cake is an acknowledgment of Madison's vibrant and proud Jewish community.

How did you do?

Absolutely lovely.
