Drizzle Cake

Give your cake a name based on the ingredients and decoration – and tell us about the origin of your recipe.

"Linda’s Lemon Drizzle Cake" – I found the recipe online after reviewing about 20 other drizzle cake recipes. It was on the Epicurious website in a blog authored by Linda McCartney’s daughter Mary. I chose it because it is a classic, simple British recipe – and also for the sentimental value relating to Mary’s mother, and in turn, my mother.

Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.

It seemed that there was too much drizzle so I didn’t use it all (poured it down the sink – gasp!). Later, after each trying a piece, both my partner and I agreed I should have used ALL the drizzle!

Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.

I made the cake in my mother’s (now vintage) yellow loaf pan that she made all kinds of tasty creations in during my childhood. Sadly, she passed away 24 years ago, but lived her entire life in the Milwaukee area. And I have called Wisconsin home for all of my 56 years. I am an avid gardener and think a Stella de Oro Daylily flower from my Madison yard nicely complements a slice of the drizzle cake.

How did you do?

Pleasantly satisfied.
