Baking Challenge

Hidden Design Cake

Give your cake a name based on the ingredients and decoration – and tell us about the origin of your recipe.

Up the Hill – A chocolate bundt cake with a lemon star hidden in every slice, decorated with a lemon cream cheese frosting. The whole cake is in tribute to American Players Theatre’s Up the Hill outdoor theater, with chocolate trees to celebrate the woods the theater sits in and a chocolate miniature of the theater itself with toffee seating. The hidden star is inspired by the stars that come out during a nighttime performance.

Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.

I was very pleasantly surprised by how well this turned out. There were a lot of places I expected to fail and get frustrated, but the chocolate trees turned out even better than I could have hoped, and when I cut into the cake and saw that star, I couldn’t believe it had worked!

Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.

It is designed in tribute to Wisconsin’s own American Players Theatre in Spring Green.

How did you do?

Rocked it.
