Baking Challenge

Family-sized Roulade

Give your dessert a clever name – and tell us about your recipe.

"Peach Swirl." This yummy desert is a sponge cake with a cream cheese and peach swirl. The recipe was found in a Midwest Living magazine. I was torn between making a lemon or a peach filling. Eventually I decided to go with peach because I knew that both of my grandpas would enjoy eating it.

What was the biggest surprise during your baking journey? Did you use any unconventional approaches? What did you learn along the way? Tell us about it!

I was surprised by was how easy it was to make. Sometimes the challenges seem like they take a whole day to complete but this one only took about an hour. One thing I learned is that when rolling the cake you have to notice what way would look best on the outside. I ended up rolling it so the pale side was on the outside and the golden part was on the inside. I would have preferred to have more color on the outside.

How did you add a Wisconsin twist to your flavors or decoration?

The cream cheese that I used was from Crystal Farms which is made in Lake Mills. Then the peaches were found at the local farmers market. My brother ended up eating my extra peaches because they were so yummy!

How did you do?

Absolutely lovely.
