How did this baker brighten our summer?
Barbie further refined the aesthetics of our summer — already one of the most visually spectacular times of year in Wisconsin. She shares with Brendan a meticulous approach offering us breathtaking bakes that left our eyes lingering (and mouths watering) on her talent for presentation.
Our favorite Wisconsin Twist (pictured)!
That Barbie added local eggs, cream cheese, cream and rhubarb to her “Four-Layer Strawberry, Rhubarb and Vanilla Cake” during Week 1 doesn’t encapsulate her Wisconsin Twist here. We’ll take the liberty to embellish and argue that her true twist was capturing the work ethic valued across our state in the care, time and attention to detail she employed to create a work of art — inside and out. This cake was part of the “Hidden Design” challenge requiring a grand reveal upon cutting into it. Barbie’s design presented internal layers in opposing color order from the floral layers of frosting — in ombre, white and light pink. Um. . . just look at it!
A choice quote or piece of Star Baker wisdom:
There’s the Cole Porter tune, “Always True to You in My Fashion” (1948) in which we hear the lyrics:
From Milwaukee, Mister Fritz,
Often dines me at the Ritz,
Mister Fritz invented Schlitz and Schlitz must pay.
Then there’s Barbie grabbing a Schlitz for her Eight-Strand Plaited Loaf during Bread Week to make us drunk on her awesomeness. From Barbie: I threw a Schlitz beer into the dough in place of water — the beer that made Milwaukee famous!” Cheers to you, Barbie!
How did you do?
