Hidden Design Cake
Give your cake a name based on the ingredients and decoration – and tell us about the origin of your recipe.
The Checkered Panda – This four layered checkerboard cake was made with red velvet and yellow cake batters. For a twist on the classic I used square pans and poured the batter in concentric squares using homemade dividers instead of the typical circles. For decoration, I frosted the cake and topped with a panda made from a regular and mini cupcake with chocolate sandwich cookies and chocolate ganache.
Tell us about your proudest moment – or humble failure – in this week’s baking challenge.
The squares in the checkerboard are not perfect but it cuts well and is certainly a showstopper!
Describe how you added a Wisconsin twist to your creation.
This cake was made with Wisconsin farm fresh eggs (which gave the yellow cake it’s beautiful color) and Wisconsin butter and milk for the frosting.
