Baking Challenge

3-tiered Floral Cake

Give your botanical creation a clever name – and tell us about your recipe.

My 9 year old daughter, Grace, chose three different recipes, one for each layer. The bottom layer is a cranberry orange cake, the middle layer is an apple spice cake, and the top layer is a cherry cake. We call our cake "Fruit Explosion" as every layer incorporates a different type of fruit grown in Wisconsin.

Any disasters? Did you take any risks? Proudest moment? Lessons learned the hard way? Tell us about it.

My daughter loves The Great British Baking Show, and was excited to be able to make something just like the contestants. She saw Candice make apple roses, and we wanted to try that for our cake. It was a bit of a challenge, as we had never tried them before, but we managed to make a mini one, and we used it in the center of our decoration!

How did you add a Wisconsin twist to your flavors or decoration?

Each of our layers represents a fruit that is grown in Wisconsin – cranberries, apples, and cherries. We also decorated with those same fruits.

How did you do?

Rocked it.
