Dominique (Dom) Johnson is an audience services specialist at WPT. One of Dom’s daily tasks includes answering audience questions about Wisconsin Public Broadcasting’s content. One of his favorite things about his job is “hearing about all of the positive effects that our programming has on the lives of our viewers and listeners across the state.” We caught up with Dom to learn more about his top public television picks.

Can you tell me a little about what your work is like on a daily basis?
As the audience services receptionist, my day normally consists of quite the variety of different tasks. While one of my primary duties is to field calls and answer audience questions about our content, I’m also in charge of giving security card access to employees of both WPT and WPR at our offices in Vilas Hall. Ordering supplies, updating member payment information, and maintaining the emergency employee database are also part of my daily routine.
What is your favorite part of your job at WPT?
I’d have to say that my favorite things about working for WPT are getting to deal with our membership base on a daily basis, and hearing about all of the positive effects that our programming has on the lives of our viewers and listeners across the state.
If you had to pick, what are your favorite PBS shows – and why?
I’ve always considered myself pretty big science nerd, so Nature and NOVA programs are pretty irreplaceable. The way they tackle the mysteries and beauty of science, earth and the rest of the universe is pretty great.
And what are your must-watch WPT shows?
Wisconsin Foodie has a place very near to my stomach – and to my heart. I enjoy watching them visit all of the local eateries around the state.
Finally, what’s your favorite thing about public television?
I love public television in general; we cut through a lot of the “fluff” and filler that is so typical of most mainstream TV networks. We strive to give our viewers the entertainment and information that they want – without all of the bells and whistles.
