The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show 2021 Update
April 1, 2021 Leave a Comment
We are all encouraged by the vaccination distribution efforts that will hopefully lead to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic that has affected every aspect of life for the past year. And, while we are eager to gather together in-person with our quilting community as soon as we are safely able, the health and safety of our attendees, presenters, vendors and volunteers is always paramount.
Therefore, after consulting with public health experts and event stakeholders about health, safety and logistics concerns for an indoor event of this size, The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show has made the necessary decision to again hold our 2021 show as an immersive online experience Sept. 9-11. Although we will again not be meeting together at the Alliant Energy Center, we will still convene around our love of quilting, sharing inspiration and learning new techniques online.
We were overwhelmed by the positive experience and record-setting participation during the 2020 Great Wisconsin Quilt Show virtual event. As we await the end of the pandemic, we will again bring you a safe, digital event that will unite and engage our quilting community. This virtual experience will again include live, interactive educational opportunities, shopping options and more – all online from the comfort and safety of your own home.
And, we will also celebrate the talents of the quilters in our community with a curated showcase of previous years’ Quilt Contest winners, as well exhibits featuring this year’s quilt challenges: The Modern Mini Quilt Challenge (which will take place online during the month of May), The Panel Quilt Challenge, The 100 Years of Art Deco Quilt Challenge, and the Kids’ Quilt Challenge. Details on how to participate in all of these exciting challenges can be found online here. The full 2021 Quilt Contest will become part of the 2022 in-person event as a special 2021-2022 Great Wisconsin Quilt Show Quilt Contest exhibit when we return to the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

Just got back from a live quilt fest in Shipshewana. HOLD YOUR SHOW LIVE! Quilters want it and vendors want it. Shipshewana only had special exhibits but you could probably get people to send in their quilts for a contest. Face it, quilters are old, and we all got vaccinated months ago. Wisconsin’s positivity rate is down to less than 1%. You can do it! It will be hard, but you can do it. Post pone until October if you need to. I’ll bet the facitilty has a date open. Please!!!!!! For our mental health.

As you found other venues, so will other quilters! This show is going to loose its following. Please stop assuming we will all come back. It could easily be done at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds the following weekend. Plenty of buildings even better parking and just as easy of a location to find……Please start thinking outside the box, much like students in a classroom, quilters need to see each other face to face every once in a while.
