What We Watch: Erica Lee, Planned Giving Associate

Erica Lee is a planned giving associate at Wisconsin Public Television, working with members of WPT’s Heritage Society. “My role in Planned Giving is very rewarding; I get to speak with WPT super fans every day!” she says.
For the June issue of our member program guide, Airwaves, we caught up with Erica to learn more about her top public television picks.

Can you tell me a little about what your work is like on a daily basis?
The majority of my days are spent working with Planned Giving Manager Aimee Granger to make sure we meet and thank members of our Heritage Society. I find places around the state where Aimee and others on our development team can meet with donors and viewers. I also manage the day-to-day logistics of the Heritage Society office.
What is your favorite part of your job at WPT?
My role in Planned Giving is very rewarding; I get to speak with WPT superfans every day! I also love working with colleagues in other departments. There are always amazing projects in the works and it’s great to be able to walk out of the office and have a front-row seat.
If you had to pick, what are your favorite PBS shows – and why?This could get long, so I’ll try to keep it brief! I was ridiculously excited about Little Women on Masterpiece and it did not disappoint. I have loved every season of Call the Midwife, and I’m also really enjoying Unforgotten. I think Nicola Walker & Sanjeev Bhaskar are fantastic.
I have to include Ready Jet Go! on PBS Kids: My seven-year-old enjoys the more complex concepts; my four-year-old loves the friendships of the characters and the way they work together.
And what are your must-watch WPT shows?
I really enjoy Wisconsin Hometown Stories. They are my go-to source for local history. And I never miss an episode of Wisconsin Life. Angela Fitzgerald has great energy, and I loved Rodney Lambright II’s animated short. I’m really looking forward to what the next season will bring.
Finally, what’s your favorite thing about public television?
Like so many, I grew up with public television. I’m pretty sure my first ever “binge-watching” session was thanks to PBS. Growing up in the ’80s, I enjoyed back-to-back kids shows every morning on public television. I love that WPT is made for everyone, and is accessible to all. I speak so often to folks who get TV over-the-air, and WPT is the only channel they watch. I love being a part of that community.
