Baking Challenge

Mini Pies

Give your baked creation a name and tell us about your flavors. Also, what are you most proud of?

Mini Farm Fruit Pies. The gooseberries and blackberries are from our farm, the cherries are Lafayette County grown, while I import the peaches from an orchard in Illinois.

The key to this week’s challenge is your creative presentation. Describe your display.

I chose to present the work in progress – before I put on the top crusts (mostly) – so that the filings can be seen. I often make a group of these and then freeze unbaked. I will only bake two at a time, since we are a family of only two. Also these mini-pies are good for experimenting with new flavors (black and blueberries), and we can each choose a different flavor.

It’s Wisconsin Week, so you need to showcase a super Wisconsin twist to your recipe and/or arrangement. Tell us about it.

My husband submits this Wisconsin twist: These grand pies that are made in Wisconsin / Whether by Lena or Ole or Johnson / They are small you might say / Well, they’re just for one day / If ever you find you would want some / So here within reach / Are two pies made of peach / Two black and blue berries, and a cherry / while the gooseberry will make you pucker / Enjoy these fruits of our land / They’re really quite grand / I know that I couldn’t be luckier.

How did you do?

Pleasantly satisfied.
